Je suppose que \(max_i\) est la fonction maximum, donc que M est la valeur maximale tirée parmi l’ensemble de \(X_i\). Cet estimateur permet de se rapprocher le plus de a parmi tous les \(X_i\). Avec les paramètres (a, n) = (16, 5), ma valeur pour a est petite, mais ma valeur pour n l’est plus encore (ce qui est normal), je pense donc que cet estimateur ne va pas permettre de trouver la valeur de a à chaque coup. Je pense qu’au plus n est supérieur à a, au plus la probabilité que la valeur M soit égale à a est élevée.

Une formule pour E[M] en fonction de a et n où \(M = max_i X_i\) est \[E[M] = \sum_{i=0}^m \frac{X_i = a}{m}\] Je propose de mofidier M de la sorte : \(M = max_i (X_i = a)\) \[E[M] = \sum_{i=0}^m \frac{max_i (X_n = a)}{m}\] La valeur de cette espérance s’explique de cette façon : soit n le nombre d’essais avant d’obtenir la valeur a, \(X_n\) est donc égal à a. m est le nombre de fois que l’essai avec valeur a et n a été réalisé. Dans ce cas, l’espérance de M est égale à a.
Une formule pour trouver la variance de M est \[V[M] = E((X_n = a) - E((X_n = a)^2))\] Lorsque a et n sont très petits, je suppose que la variance est élevée, car l’espérance de M est plus proche de \(\frac{a}{2}\) que de a. Lorsque a est petit et n grand, je suppose que la variance est très faible, car généralement E[M] = a dans ces conditions. Lorsque a et n sont grands, je suppose que la variance est très faible, car généralement E[M] est très proche de a. En revanche, lorsque a est grand et n petit, je suppose que la variance est très élevée, car E[M] est plus proche de \(\frac{a}{2}\) que de a.
Mon intuition de départ (Si n >> a, E[M] = a) n’était donc pas si mauvaise, mais était incomplète, car lorsque a et n sont grands, E[M] se rapproche fortement de a.

\(M' = \frac{2}{n} \sum_{i} X_i\) contient \(\sum_{i} \frac{X_i}{n}\), ce qui correspond à la moyenne des \(X_i\). La moyenne d’un ensemble de valeurs prises entre 1 et a est généralement très proche de \(\frac{a}{2}\). Multiplier par 2 cette valeur permettrait donc d’obtenir a. Je suppose que l’espérance de M’ est a (ou en tout cas très proche de a).
Tout comme pour la question précédente, j’ai étudié l’espérance de \(M' = \frac{2}{n} \sum_{i} X_i\) pour a pris dans [1, 160] et n choisi dans [1, 100].

J’observe qu’effectivement E[M’] a une valeur proche de a et permet donc de l’estimer. Lorsque a et n sont grands, cet estimateur donne une valeur très proche de a. Lorsque a est petit est n grand, E[M’] est presque égale à a (à 0.1 près). Lorsque a et n sont très petits, les valeurs de E[M’] sont globalement proches de a, ce qui est normal, car il y a moins de valeurs tirées dans l’échantillon pour déterminer a. Lorsque n est petit et a grand, selon l’échantillon sur lequel on réalise nos données, les valeurs sont globalement bien moins proches de a que lorsque n est grand (on peut même trouver une différence de plus de 10 entre a et la moyenne obtenue !)
Le but de Bob est de donner un nombre supérieur à M tout en restant inférieur à A et à 1, car A est pris uniformément dans l’intervalle [0, 1].
###Q2.3 Bob n’a pas encore trop pu réfléchir à la bonne stratégie et il se propose donc d’essayer la stratégie \(r(M) = 1.1M\) lorsque \(n=10\)
Avec cette stratégie, Bob est certain de donner une valeur plus grande que M, ce qui est souhaitable puisque M < A pour tout M et pour tout A. En revanche, Bob s’interdit quelques valeurs dans l’intervalle [0, 1] : en calculant \(M = \frac{1}{1.1}\), on obtient \(M \simeq 0.909\), ce qui signifie qu’avec sa méthode, la valeur qu’il obtient pour \(M > 0.909\) n’est pas dans l’intervalle [0, A], car \(A \leq 1\). En appliquant cette méthode, Alice gagne dans environ 10% des cas (lorsque \(M \simeq 0.909\)), je pense donc que cette stratégie m’a l’air bonne et vaut la peine d’être essayée par Bob.

Parmi ces trois valeurs, \(\alpha = 0.5\) est la meilleure, quoique de peu. Les gains de Bob restent relativement faibles, de l’ordre de 14 centimes environ. Cela me semble correct que \(\alpha = 0.5\) soit la meilleure valeur. Cela s’explique par le fait qu’avec un \(\alpha\) grand commme \(\alpha = 0.7\), pour un M petit, r(M) sera très grand. En revanche, pour M très grand (0.9 par exemple), \(r(M) = M^\alpha = 0.9^{0.7} \simeq 0.93\), qui donne un gain très faible : \(r(M) - M \simeq 0.03 €\). En revanche, avec \(\alpha = 0.5\), les gains sont à peu près constants pour les valeurs de a que j’ai prises afin de simuler la stratégie de Bob.
